Located in the east of Germany, Leipzig is a city rich in history and culture with a lively music and art scene.
Worth seeing is the historic Leipzig city center, where you can visit the famous St. Thomas Church – where Johann Sebastian Bach worked as music director for more than 27 years -, the Market Square, or the Old Stock Exchange. In the city center, you will also find the Museum of Fine Arts – which houses an impressive collection of paintings and sculptures, the Bach Museum, the Stasi Museum, the Gewandhaus, and the Leipzig Opera.
Also worth a visit is the Monument to the Battle of the Nations which is located in the southeastern part of Leipzig, the Leipzig Panometer – where the German artist Yadegar Asisi has been presenting monumental panoramic images combined with an accompanying exhibition since 2003 – and the Leipzig Zoo – one of the oldest and most diverse zoos in Europe.
Finally, don’t miss the opportunity to sample the local cuisine. Try traditional dishes such as Leipziger Allerlei, a vegetable-meat stew, or Leipziger Lerche, a pastry filled with marzipan.
