Günter von Kniese takes the lead at Hotel Dieksee – Collection by Ligula

Malente, September 2026 – Hotel Dieksee – Collection by Ligula welcomes Günter von Knese as its new General Manager. The experienced hotelier has been responsible for the hotel since August 1.

From chef to hotel manager

Günter von Knese is a trained chef, business lawyer, and has held management positions in the hotel industry for many years. His professional experience in operations and strategic management shapes his leadership style today: “As a chef, you learn very early on that you are part of a team and that in the end, everyone must function for the result to be right.”

Leadership with calmness and clarity

With increasing experience, Günter has learned to first observe and listen to situations before decisions are made. For him, good leadership means above all clarity, reliability, and fair treatment of one another. “I don’t think it makes much sense to get loud just to show leadership strength.”

What judo teaches about leadership

His long-time hobby, judo, also influences his attitude. Technique, timing, respect, and correctly assessing one’s counterpart are not only important in sports but can also be transferred to everyday professional life. Not every situation gets better by applying more pressure.

Understand first, then change

As the new Hotel Manager, Günter first wants to get to know the hotel, the employees, the guests, and the location. “Of course, when you arrive somewhere new, you relatively quickly see things that you might do differently. But first, you have to understand why certain processes are the way they are.”

Hospitality begins with attentiveness

For Günter, good hospitality means above all attentiveness. It is often the small things that determine whether a guest feels truly comfortable and welcome.

Regarding his own presence in the hotel, he also relies on trust instead of permanent control. “If a hotel only functions as long as the director is standing next to it, something is fundamentally wrong.” His goal is to provide orientation while simultaneously leaving room for employees to take their own responsibility.
