Copenhagen’s lakes – Søerne – are artificial lakes formed over several centuries by damming a natural stream. They gradually took shape from the Middle Ages through to the 17th century, serving as a source of water, powering mills and helping defend the city. Today, they are primarily used for recreation and form an integral part of Copenhagen’s urban landscape.
Sortedams Sø, Peblinge Sø and Sankt Jørgens Sø stretch across the city, making them perfect for a leisurely stroll, a morning run or simply taking a moment to unwind.
One of Copenhagen’s most iconic bridges, Dronning Louises Bro, is known for its busy cycling route, with tens of thousands of cyclists crossing it every day. The bridge is also a popular meeting place where people gather, relax and enjoy the city.
